Homeopathy - The ability to maintain and restore optimal health is within each dog. Homeopathic remedies stimulate the body’s natural resources (energy) to ‘self-heal’. Conventional drugs merely suppress symptoms.
More and more vets and pet owners are turning to homeopathic medicines as their primary choice of treatment. Homeopathy has established itself as a medical modality that is particularly safe and effective, as evidenced by it worldwide popularity and its therapeutic results.
When using homeopathic medicines for your pet, you are contributing to a more ecological, more economical and a more effective approach to animal health care: an approach that respects and trusts your dog’s ability to heal itself.
What can be treated with homeopathic medicines? For your dog, homeopathic remedies are used to treat many conditions such as: allergies, skin rashes, digestive upsets, arthritis, cough, fatigue, minor injuries, over work, stress, nervousness, anxiety, hot spots, nose problems, eye irritations, and many others. Under a veterinary homeopath, many more chronic conditions may be treated.
Are homeopathic medicines regulated in the US? The Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS) has been approving since 1897 strict standards of quality and purity under which each homeopathic remedy must be manufactured. In addition, the conditions under which homeopathic medicines are manufactured and marketed are regulated in the U.S. by the FDA.
What makes homeopathic medicines safe? Homeopathic medicines will relieve your pet’s symptoms without causing side effects when used as directed. This non-toxicity comes from the very small doses used in the remedies.
Can I give my dog homeopathic medicines with other drugs? Since the doses used in homeopathy are very small, they do not interact with other drugs your dog is taking such as antibiotics, steroids, etc.
What do the different potencies mean? (6c, 12X, 30X, 30c)
Let’s take the example of Arnica montana 12c. ‘Arnica montana’ is the Latin name for the original substance: the Mountain Daisy. Latin is used as an international standard for homeopathic medicines. “12C” is the dilution of Arnica montana. “12” indicated how many times the substance has been diluted. “C” (Latin for 100) indicates that Arnica has been diluted using a centesimal dilution scale. So Arnica montana 12c means Arnica has been diluted 12 times by 1/100. Confused? Let’s take 1 drop of Arnica and put it in 100 drops of water. Now we take 1 drop of that mixture and put it into 100 drops of water - we continue to dilute 12 times to get 12c! The mixture is vigorously shaken at each dilution to ‘energize’ the remedy. The more the remedy is diluted the more ‘potent’ it becomes. This is curious because there is also LESS of the original substance - for example 200c is many more times potent than 12c. At this level, the original substance can no longer be detected by any means- yet it is more potent.
Where do the homeopathic active ingredients come from? Active ingredients are derived from plants, animals, and minerals.
How do I give the remedies to my dog? Homeopathic remedies come in several forms - tablets, pellets and liquids. All are given orally (into the mouth) according to the directions provided. Homeopathy is NOT age or weight dependent so all animals get the same dose. This is because the remedies are so safe and they work ‘energetically’ to help stimulate your dogs natural healing ability.
